What if…?
Our journey to positively impact 1 billion lives using the sense of touch begins with a project. A project is how we press our assumptions against the real world. We work with partners, welcome failure, explore risky assumptions and prove ourselves wrong as a daily mantra. We believe in rigor. And we believe in play. Together we create potentially paradigm-shifting outcomes that begin their incubation here, as exploration of the simple question that has spurred all of humanity for all of time: “What if…?”
Reimagine Accessibility | KCAI
What if we could reimagine the process for making museum art more accessible while giving the artist of tomorrow practical training in how to create works of art that are accessible?
The Haptic 9 Co. partners with the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) to create an internship for students to reimagine artworks in the Nelson-Atkins Museum’s permanent collection as tactile objects. Our goal is to support the Accessibility team at the Nelson-Atkins Museum by increasing the number of art works that have accompanying tactile representations. After exhibiting their “retouched” works, students will donate their pieces to the Accessibility Team for inclusion in future blind touch tours.
re/ Touch: The Feel of Art
“re/Touch: The Feel of Art” is an exhibition of 4 artists and their exploration and works of tactile art that are reinterpretations of 4 art works in the permanent collection at the Nelson- Atkins Museum. They dove deep into the artist personal history, their materiality and style, and the public perception of the artwork. They fostered relationships with disability orgs, museum staff, KCAI faculty and artists’ estates to create catergoy-defining examples of how we can make art more accessible, and touchable for all.
